What You Need To Know About Luggage Warranties

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

There are many different luggage warranties.  The majority of the luggage warranties cover defects in material and workmanship.  These will generally be called a “limited warranty”.  These can range from one year to several years or a lifetime.  These warranties will exclude normal wear and tear, abuse, and common carrier mishandling.  Common carriers are planes, trains, buses, taxis, and cruise lines, as well as anyone else who carries your luggage.  The majority of luggage brands offer a “limited warranty” on your luggage purchase.  However, some of the better brands do offer a more inclusive warranty with your luggage purchase.  Some of these more inclusive warranties cover a brands entire line, while others cover only their premium lines of luggage.  You always need to read the warranty to be sure when making a luggage purchase.  One of the brands that offers a fabulous luggage warranty is Briggs & Riley luggage.  The Briggs & Riley luggage warranty is called a “simple as that” warranty and is for a lifetime.  This warranty covers everything from wheels, handles and zippers.  It also covers airline damage without you having to make a claim.  It does not cover your clothing inside the luggage, or cleaning of the luggage, but it does cover any damage that arises when traveling such as a seam opening or a wheel breaking.  Since the Briggs & Riley luggage warranty covers everything, they are quick to make changes in their design should there be any major repairs.  Other brands such as Travelpro luggage have a limited warranty on their luggage collections and a “worry free” warranty on their premium Platinum 6 collection.  The Platinum 6 Travelpro luggage has a “worry free” warranty that covers repairs even if they are caused by the airlines or other common carriers.  This warranty is a lifetime warranty also.  Only the Platinum 6 collection of Travelpro luggage has this extended warranty.  Boyt luggage also has a limited warranty on their collections and a “best” warranty on their Mach 5 luggage collection.  This Mach 5 luggage warranty covers every type of damage except cosmetic and the clothing inside.  Tumi luggage has a warranty that is all-inclusive for the first year, and then becomes a limited warranty on years two to five.  With all of these luggage warranties, you are generally responsible for freight and/or handling charges.  Most of these well-known luggage brands are building luggage that is lighter in weight, but actually more durable and able to weather the rigors of travel.  Whatever the warranty, most of the better pieces of luggage can be repaired and ready to get back on the road quickly!

Wide-body from Briggs & Riley luggage

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

What is a Briggs & Riley wide-body carry on luggage?  This is the newest size of carry on from Briggs & Riley luggage!  It is actually a 20″ x 16″ x 8″ sized carry on which can expand to 10.5″ deep.  It is shorter and wider than the usual carry on size of luggage, making this Briggs & Riley easier to fit in most overhead compartments on domestic airlines.  Because it’s extra wide, yet shorter, the Briggs & Riley carry on luggage in the wide-body style has more packing versatility.  On the outside of the carry on is a SpeedThru pocket for storage of items at security checks.  This pocket will house your passport, photo identification and boarding pass.  The orange lining inside this pocket calls attention if you forget to zipper it closed!  There’s also another outside pocket for last minute items.  Keep a travel umbrella and lightweight raincoat handy!  The new wide-body Briggs & Riley luggage carry on has low profile wheels and bottom feet to fit more easily in the overhead of most airlines.  The pull up handle bars are on the outside of the Briggs & Riley luggage giving you the maximum amount of room inside to pack.  There are also no lumps or bumps taking up space or forcing you to pack around inside the Briggs & Riley carry on.  The Smartlink system on the outside of the bag allows you to piggyback your laptop case or briefcase to the front of the luggage and wheel both along easily.  The Briggs & Riley tote bags will also slide over the top of the pull up handle and ride along.  To insure that this case is light in weight, Briggs & Riley uses a Sheer Strength hybrid frame that also provides flexibility, and durability as well as shape retention.  The zip around expansion will increase packing capacity by 24%.  There’s also a built in tri-fold garment sleeve for wrinkle free packing of one or two suits.  The garment panels have a foam roll bar to help prevent wrinkling.  Pack up this convenient new wide-body Briggs & Riley carry on luggage for a two to four day vacation or business trip.  Remember there’s always peace of mind with Briggs & Riley luggage!  You’re covered by the “simple as that” lifetime warranty on any and all Briggs & Riley luggage.  No matter what, your luggage is always repaired at no charge!

New Sizes From Briggs & Riley Luggage

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Briggs & Riley luggage has introduced new luggage sizes!  The 27″ Pullman replaces the 26″ and 28″ sizes that they previously made.  The 27″ Briggs & Riley luggage size is a more practical size for today’s travel.  The new cases from Briggs & Riley are also lighter weight.  You can actually feel the difference in weight when you lift the new cases.  The 27″ Briggs & Riley luggage is available with a “one touch” push button expansion system.  This is the easiest way to expand your luggage when you need more room.  Push the button, and the luggage becomes larger or smaller.  You can travel with the case unexpanded, and make purchases on your trip.  They’ll be room on the way home for everything once you expand the luggage.  It’s like having two bags in one.  Additionally, the 27″ size is also available with zippered expansion.  This is a lighter weight version, and the case will expand with the hidden zipper.  Both cases are the same size, but they have different expansion features.  One Briggs & Riley 27″ is more convenient, and one is lighter weight.  Both 27″ cases have the pull up handle on the outside of the case.   This frees up the inside of the case for your packing convenience.  There’s more space inside, and there are no lumps and bumps to pack around.  This is easily the most convenient way to pack!  There’s also an outside pocket on the front of these 27″ Briggs & Riley Pullmans.  The outside pocket is roomy enough for last minute items, a raincoat or lightweight jacket, and a travel umbrella.  The hidden luggage tag is located above the outside pocket.  This has an elastic holder so the tag and your information are never lost.  If you’re taking along a suit or sports jacket, each Briggs & Riley 27″ luggage comes with a removable garment sleeve.  This will pack your jacket virtually wrinkle free, and the garment sleeve can be removed from the case when you are taking along more casual clothing.  Briggs & Riley luggage has one of the best luggage warranties in the industry.  Everything is covered by their “simple as that” warranty.  Just return the Briggs & Riley luggage to them if it is ever damaged, and all repairs are done free of charge.  It is not necessary to make a claim with the airlines or cruise company.  Briggs & Riley luggage has made packing and traveling simple and easy.  Now you just need to plan your trip!

Packing Luggage

Monday, June 29th, 2009

We always receive a lot of questions about how to pack luggage.  Like anything else, it’s really quite simple when you know how.   The luggage today has inner bars down the center of the bag.  This is the housing for the pull up handle that allows you to push or pull your luggage.  The only popular brand with bars on the outside is Briggs & Riley luggage.  The Briggs & Riley luggage is completely flat inside.  With all of the other brands of luggage, you will need to even out the packing surface.  I begin my packing with packing cubes.  These will fit around the bars, insuring a flat surface when you begin packing.  Inside the packing cubes, you can put underwear, pajamas, socks, shirts, gym clothing and stockings.  Packing cubes for cosmetics and toiletries are usually kept within the main body of the luggage to protect your clothing from spillage.  Shoes should be packed in shoe covers to keep everything around the shoes clean.  These shoe covers can be placed around the perimeter of the bag.  I pack with hangers because there are never enough hangers in the hotel.  I use the thin wire hangers from the cleaners.  I hang the pants over the hanger with a shirt or blouse on top.  I put four hangers together in one direction, and then start four more hangers in the opposite direction, going the long way.  Start with the end of your clothing opposite the hanger, so the hanger and clothes are over the luggage.  When I’m done with packing the clothing, I fold everything in.  They’ll be an area in the now available in the center where you can place your toiletries.  Since we now have to pack cosmetics, I double bag them in plastic, and then place them in a plastic lined cube or plastic lined cosmetic bag.  This is the safest way to protect your clothing from spills and leakage.  On top of the cosmetics, I’ll pack some sweaters or a lightweight jacket.  If you are packing a man’s suit or sports jacket, the best way is to use a garment sleeve.  Tumi luggage, Prolite luggage, Briggs & Riley luggage and Kenneth Cole luggage already have a removable garment sleeve inside.  Pack the jacket and slacks within the garment sleeve neatly and carefully.  You’ll be surprised how wrinkle-free your clothing will come out of the luggage.  When you arrive at your hotel or destination, you can just hang everything up, put your packing cubes in the drawers and go on to a meeting or sightseeing!

Packing Carry on Luggage

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Whether you travel by airplane for business or pleasure, short trips require carry on luggage for practicality.  It’s easier not to wait for your luggage at the carousel when you’ll only be away for one or two nights.  When you use carry on luggage, you are able to wheel on and wheel off.  Pack your carry on luggage correctly, and you’ll be surprised by the amount it will hold.  There are lots of carry on pieces of luggage available in all prices ranges and styles.  The roomiest carry on is the Briggs & Riley expandable carry on.  Because the pull up handle bars are on the outside of the bag, the Briggs & Riley carry on is the roomiest.  One of the lightest weight carry ons is the Delsey Helium Hyperlite luggage.  The Delsey carry on is also expandable and gives you lots of room for clothing and travel accessories.  Begin packing a carry on by using packing cubes.  The packing cubes will keep small items organized, and make unpacking quick and easy.  If security needs to check your carry on luggage, it’s also easier to re-pack when you use packing cubes.  In carry on luggage you also will need to pack your liquids and gels in a 3-1-1 clear plastic case.  The bottles and jars have to be three ounces or less inside a clear, one quart zippered case.  Keep a lightweight travel umbrella in the outside pocket of your carry on.  Then you’ll be ready for rainy weather.  Pack neatly and don’t overstuff your carry on luggage.  Over packing can present problems in the overhead compartment or when going through security.  Another nice feature of carry on luggage is that the piggyback strap will allow you to attach your laptop case or briefcase and wheel both easily along to your destination.  How’s that for traveling easy?
